Do Teeth Feel the Effects of Allergies?

Posted on 10/10/2018 by Nicholas Dose
Do Teeth Feel the Effects of Allergies?Everything in your head and face is connected, and when something hurts or is uncomfortable, you can usually feel it in other areas.

This is true for allergies as well. Your teeth can feel the effects of allergies when you are stuffed and congested.

Tooth pain is one of the most common symptoms people with allergies feel during the spring and fall. This happens because the maxillary or upper sinuses are the largest in your face and when they fill up with mucus the pressure can cause pain in the upper molars.

Symptoms of Allergies on Your Oral Health

Besides tooth pain, when you suffer from allergies, there are other oral health problems you could experience. Watch out for these symptoms.

•  Increased teeth sensitivity to hot or cold temperature because of sinus pressure
•  Dry mouth
•  Dry or itchy throat
•  A headache

How to Relieve Pain from Allergies

If you suffer from allergies, you should probably take an antihistamine to help with the symptoms. Your sinuses will thank you. It is also important to stay hydrated because when you have a dry mouth, you are at a higher risk for oral problems such as cavities.

Drinking plenty of water will also help with getting rid of a sinus infection, which sometimes happens with severe allergies. Gargling with salt water helps get rid of the mucus build up in your sinuses and relieve the pressure.

It is essential to let us know that you suffer from allergies, so we can make sure your tooth pain is not related to something else. Drink plenty of water and don't forget to keep brushing your teeth and flossing, especially if you have a dry mouth. This condition can cause other oral health issues in the long run.
