We always recommend to our patients that they stock up on several containers of dental wax and keep them in multiple locations for traveling. Dental wax is very important to patients with braces, because it can help soothe irritation and ensure that sores don't develop within the lips over time.
Without wax, it's possible that your mouth will become very uncomfortable and you'll be in a lot of pain over time. That's why it's up to you to make sure you have wax available no matter where you are.
Purchase Several Containers of Dental Wax
Dental wax is very affordable and is sold in small containers that are easy to pack up and put in different locations. If you want to ensure that you don't get stuck in a painful spot with your mouth the entire time you are away on vacation, put some containers of dental wax in your vehicle, put some more in your luggage and pack up many different packs so that you have them wherever you go and whatever you do. You will be fine without wax for a few hours, but you could be in for some discomfort if you have to go without it for many days.
Using Dental Wax Properly
Dental wax is simple to use and you probably already have a good idea of how to use it, but just to make sure we're going to go over applying it right now.
The first step is to pull off a small piece of wax and to mold it between the fingers to soften it up and make it a bit easier to work with. After you do that, it's time to press the small glob of wax over the top of the bracket in your braces that is bothering your mouth.
Once the wax is in place it should not bother you as much any longer. Wax wears out over time, though, so you will have to apply it multiple times a day, and will likely have to put wax on after eating meals.
As long as you keep plenty of dental wax around you shouldn't have any trouble with not having it available when you need it. Just keep it in mind when you take trips and you shouldn't have any problems.
